seedbag tote

I finally got some lining fabric so I could turn some seedbags into totes!
I added this one to my etsy shop...
The finished bag is about 14.5" wide, 16" tall standing on it's 4" base with a 10" strap drop.
The straps and lining are made from a multi-colored floral fabric.
It's been on etsy for 8 hours and already has 40 views!  It's popular!!!

hobo purse

My friend Mandy asked me to make her a purse that she found on etsy {here}. Mandy picked out super cute fabrics from Amy Butler's Midwest Modern line - Optic Blossom Linen on the outside & Martini Mustard on the inside. We ordered from Fabric.com - super affordable and pretty quick shipping.

The pattern was super easy to follow and not too difficult either! The purse is 11"x13"x4" finished. There is a zipper pocket inside as well as three open pockets. There are two large pockets on the outside. The bag closes with a magnet snap and has an adjustable strap. It is called a "diaper bag transition" and it will be great for her & her four little ones!!!!

I also made her a {zipper pouch} for her diapers, wipes, etc. I think I might need to make one for myself!!! :)

Seed Bag Tote {Repurpose}

I made a tote out of a paper seed bag for a local farmer this weekend! It is lined with brick red decor weight fabric. The same fabric is used for the extra long handles that can be worn over the shoulder or crossbody.

This bag, {these totes} and {these clutches} are probably my favorite ways to repurpose!!!

Repurpose Reusable Tote

As I mentioned earlier, my sister had some burlap seedbags that she wanted me to turn into tote bags. I am in love! I love that even though we washed the bags, they aren't perfectly clean. They are vintage and cute all at the same time!

The finished bag measures 15" across and 16.5" tall, with a 4" base.

And I still love the lining fabric!!
I am picturing myself walking around a farmer's market, filling my tote up with fresh fruits and veggies!

Reversible Tote

Lil Miss has been in gymnastics for a few months now and every Wednesday night, when she's ready to join her class, I get stuck with her shoes, pants and shirt in my bag! So, I let her pick out some fabrics and we made a tote just for her & gymnastics!!

{She's stretching here!}

She chose a white/pink/orange/green butterfly print, as well as a pink/green floral. I wanted the floral on the outside, butterflies on the inside. Lil Miss wanted floral on the inside, butterflies on the outside. So I compromised! Reversible!!! There is a piece of cardboard in the bottom to add sturdiness. She loved it!!

Mother's Day Gift To Me!!

Tuesday, I received a lovely little package from {sewmamasew}!! It is the fabric I ordered for my bag!!

All three of these were folded up nicely and tied with a cute fabric bow! Here are the fabrics I chose - Four Petals Jelly, Trees Tonal Raspberry & French Lace Sprout! LOVE!!
The pattern I used is from {ithinksew}. I chose the #91 Cross Over bag. It was really easy to follow and had a lot of pictures!! I didn't have a lot of consecutive time to work on it, but it took an hour or two, three nights in a row.

Here's the finished bag....

I added a few things that weren't in the pattern.

#1 - two outside pockets with elastic on the tops. My Vera bags all have outside pockets and I use them A LOT!

#2 - two inside pockets without zippers...the pattern called for one with a zipper and since I never zip my interior pockets, I scratched the zippers and added another pocket!

#3 - FABRIC ROSETTES! Love them, enough said!!

#4 - a piece of cardboard to the bottom, in between the exterior and lining for support. {I will have to seam rip the lining to remove this should I want to wash my bag.}

So I am in love with my new bag and I've decided it is my Mother's Day gift to myself!

One Yard Wonders: Kids Messenger Bag

Lil miss took a super long nap today and I started to get bored! I've been trying to use more of the leftover and unused fabrics in my stash, mainly because my stash is getting very large! I ordered a messenger bag pattern from {ithinksew} last week and I'm waiting for the fabrics I ordered to come in so I can sew me up a new bag! In the spirit of impatiently waiting, I decided to try out another {One Yard Wonders} patter: the Kids Messenger Bag!

I made it with lil man & his new DSi/games/etc. in mind. It's made out of brown home dec fabric that I somehow had a TON of! I think my Aunt D gave it to me, but I don't remember why she had so much in the first place! Anyway, I had more than enough for this project! I was a little nervous at first because the pattern/directions were on 2 1/2 pages....with one diagram for cutting the pieces out, one diagram of a finished bag and one diagram showing how to pin "step 5". I am very, very visual and I need to see how it should look rather than just read how it should look. However, once I got started, I was fine!

The bag is 10" wide by 12" tall, with a 29" strap. There is about a 2" base so you can actually fit quite a bit in there! There is also a lined pocket that measures 8.5" wide by 4.5" tall.

Needless to say, I am even more excited about my messenger bag!!!

Folklore Love!!

I was so excited with how the Folklore Tote came out using the pattern from my new book, that I made another one!! This time I used a stiffer interfacing, Pellon #808. This interfacing made the tote seem a lot more durable than the other interfacing I used. I increased the size of the pockets, also using interfacing on them this time. I used some left over Serendipity fabric that I got for a custom dress order. Love it!!!

101 One-Yard Wonders: Project #3

Project #3: Folklore Tote

This took about 2 hours, but it was well worth the wait!! I used three coordinating fabrics (do they look familiar?! I used them on the Strappy Clutch for my sister!) and some fusible interfacing to make it a little bit more durable. There were also a bunch of pieces to cut out, but the assembly was pretty easy. The outside has two pleats on the front and back.
The inside is finished also, with two pockets. If I make this bag again, I will add bigger pockets and more of them. The finished tote is 13.5" wide & 10" tall (not including the straps).
My sister-in-law asked me to make her a bag, so here it is!!
